Carlsbad Kiwanis continues its 30-year tradition

Members of the Kiwanis Club of Carlsbad, joined by members of their sponsored Boy Scout Troop #784 and Carlsbad High School Key Club again presented their semi-annual Pancake Breakfast during the Carlsbad Street Faire on November 1. The Club has been responsible for this important portion of the local event for over 30 years.

Although the sun had only been up for a few minutes, a good-sized early crowd sat down for breakfast consisting of orange juice, pancakes, sausage, and coffee or milk (left photo). Members of the Carlsbad Kiwanis, meanwhile, were busy in the cook tent preparing the hot sausages and freshly-cooked pancakes. A sign on the tent called attention to supporters who donated supplies and materials for the event. Those sponsors included: Next Day Specialty, M&M Foods (Carlsbad Carl's Jr.), Johnson and Wood Insurance Services, Schulz Management (Carlsbad McDonalds), Carlsbad Starbucks, and That Pizza Place.

Event Chairman Jose DeAnda, left photo, was flipping pancakes most of the morning for the hundreds of hungry customers who sought out the breakfast at its traditional location, the old Carlsbad Amtrak Station. In the photo on the right, baskets filled with a variety of goodies were available during the opportunity drawing which took place at noon.
